Choosing the right hair length is essential for achieving your desired look. Follow this simple guide from Asara Hair to ensure you select the perfect length.
1. Measure Hair While It Is Straight
Hair length is always measured from the top of the weft (or crown) to the ends while the hair is pulled completely straight.
- ✅ Stretch curly or wavy hair before measuring.
- ❌ Do not measure the hair in its natural curly or wavy state, as this will give an inaccurate length.
2. Straight, Wavy & Curly Hair Have Different Finished Lengths
Although they may have the same measured length, different textures will appear differently when worn.
- Straight Hair – Shows the full length.
- Wavy Hair – Appears approximately 1–2 inches shorter.
- Curly Hair – Appears approximately 2–4 inches shorter, depending on the curl pattern.
For example:
- 20” Straight Hair reaches the full 20”.
- 20” Body Wave looks like about 18–19”.
- 20” Curly Hair may look like 16–18”.

3. Bundle Measurement
When measuring a hair bundle:
✅ Pull the hair straight from the top of the weft to the ends before measuring.
❌ Do not follow the curls or waves with the measuring tape.
4. Wig Measurement
For wigs, measure from the top center of the wig (crown) down to the longest hair ends, making sure the hair is completely straight during measurement.
Quick Tips
✔ Always measure hair when it is fully stretched.
✔ Curly and wavy textures will look shorter than straight hair of the same length.
✔ If you want the same visual length as straight hair, consider choosing a longer length for curly or wavy textures.
